How to Get Help
What should I do if I suspect a child is in a drug endangered situation?
You can help save a child's life by notifying police of your suspicions. Remember, you will not be in trouble if your suspicions are wrong, and, if you choose, your report can remain anonymous.
- Do not approach the home. Homes with drug labs are often booby-trapped and users can be heavily armed.
- Write down everything you see that appears suspicious including the times and dates of the events.
- Call the police and explain to them exactly what you have witnessed.
- If a child is in immediate danger, dial 911.
- To report suspected abuse, or to get help, call toll-free 1-866-242-4111.
What do I do if I am in danger?
If you are a child living with drugs in your home, there is help available.
- Don't be afraid to tell someone. Talk to an adult you trust like a teacher, a doctor or a family friend.
- Say, "This is very hard for me to talk about, but you are someone I can trust. Can we talk alone for a few minutes? I need your help."
- Ask them to call the police for you if you are not comfortable doing it yourself. The police will send someone to your home to make sure you are safe.
- To report suspected abuse, or to get help, call toll-free 1-866-242-4111.
